Its the First!

It is the first day of a new month - already! Time flies so quickly in life. I cannot believe that my baby will be 6 years old this month. She is beside herself having to WAIT for her birthday party.

So many things have transpired over the month of January. I have been struggling with 2 herniated disks and resulting pain and Boogie has injured himself as well. So we have both been taking pain meds and being miserable. Its hard to watch a pet suffer.. he lays there holding his leg up and looks at me with those pleading eyes.. and I can't do a darn thing for him except keep feeding him his pills. Its miserable really. We don't know how Boogie injured himself, he just came up lame. And his pain has the doctors stumped as to what exactly his injury is. Which of course means vet bills.

On the other spectrum.. Buddy our big dog jumped a fence and caught his leg on it. He hung upside down screaming so loud that all dogs in range where howling, our neighbors pigs where squealing and neighbors where coming out of their houses. Meanwhile we are trying to figure out how to get our screaming, biting and thrashing dog off the fence. DRAMA!
So finally we just fling him off to avoid further injury to him and less of a chance of our getting bit by a desperate dog. He hit the ground, rolled and popped up... limped a bit, shook it off and ran up to apologize for trying to bite us. He had a large hole in his leg where he snagged himself. All sorts of images roam through your head at moments like this.. surgery, amputation, how bad is it ??? After a conversation with the vet, he determined we could treat Buddy at home. I gave him a shot of Penicillin and we treated the hole with yellow wound medicine. He is fine.. barely limped more than a day.

Good stuff has happened as well! Tylea has been nominated by her teachers to be put into the Gifted and Talented program at her school.. She is one of 3 children in Kindergarten to get this honor. As you can imagine.. we are very please and most proud. I only hope she thinks its fun when her learning becomes challenging. Its all been so easy for her until now and if she can't make the best grade or be first to do it.. then she gets defeated. BUT on the other hand.. she will get bored if she stays where she is now. Something to pray about and see how it goes.

I wish life would slow down a bit but I also can't wait to see what will happen next!

Pink Swirlies

Its funny how the littlest things can thrill a child.

Making breakfast at 6am is such a chore for me for two reasons. First, Its 6am for crying out loud! "Ack, where is my coffee and zip it will ya!".. Secondly, it is a chore unto itself to get kids to eat.

So anyway, last week I thought I would get creative with an old mainstay, the peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I got my rolling pin out and rolled flat two pieces of bread. On these I spread a layer of crunchy peanut butter and rolled them up like a taquito. Then I took a bit of jelly and a bit of butter and whipped it up in small bowl to make "pink" dip. (If you have girls then you KNOW pink is always a hit). Tylea loved them so much that she named them.

Now, this is important to consider.. kids only name things they love. I don't recall kid names for schoolbooks and chores and I don't recall fond names of doctors or dentist. Kids name puppies and cars and games and food. Needless to say I knew I had hit a home run when she dubbed my PB&J creation. . . "Pink Swirlies"

There is, however, one downside... Now every meal she jumps up and down and says "MOM!!! Make Pink Swirlies!"

Chalk one up for Mom!

Proverbs 22:6 "Train a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not turn from it."

Wasted Viewing

Tonight, while watching a show about Big Cats on Animal Planet, I saw an advertisement that informed me that there is now a Golf Channel. This got me to thinking, "hmmm, golf, 24/7". Is there really that much about golf that I want to know? Do I need a channel dedicated only to golf? Am I paying for this among the dizzying volley of channels on the menu?

It seems there is a channel for just about all interests: The Soap channel; GOD TV; Spike TV for Men; Lifetime for Women; Noggin for the kids; BET if you're black; Court TV if you're a lawyer; QVC if you're a shopper; Nick at Nite if you're an insomniac and the list goes on. Are you an old movie buff.. then there is the AMC movie channel or TV Land for old TV. There are channels for Cooking; walking your dog; talking Klingon; taking a safari; planning your financial portfolio; wearing make-up; learning to decorate and selling your home.

But seriously folks.. GOLF TV?

As I turn off the TV and open up the Laptop I ponder what channel would best suit me and my wasted viewing preferences.. and I decide I waste most of my TV viewing time while watching all of the channels as I surf the remote and complain about having to pay for my 100 plus channels and there is not a blamed thing on!
